Visit of Ambassador Grbić to Daegu

09. Sep 2025.
At the initiative of the Embassy, Ambassador Nemanja Grbić paid a working visit to Daegu on September 3, the administrative and economic center of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk region. At City Hall, he held a meeting with Amb. Jeong Hye-kwan, Deputy Mayor for International Affairs, with the participation of senior officials from the economic and international departments. The discussion covered cooperation through major sports and cultural events (World Masters Athletics 2026, World Shooting Championship 2027), as well as Daegu’s participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade. The city requested support in identifying a potential partner city in Serbia; it was also agreed that Daegu would present itself to the diplomatic corps in the Republic of Korea with a focus on concrete industrial projects.

At Kyungpook National University (KNU), the Ambassador discussed with the university leadership scholarship schemes (in addition to GKS and university/regional programs) and joint research within the framework of Horizon Europe. Afterwards, a Serbian language textbook was presented to the university library. KNU will provide the Embassy with information for promotion in Serbia and will consider participating in the upcoming scientific conference in Belgrade.

At the National Information Society Agency (NIA), discussions focused on DGCC projects and the operation of the SKIP Center in Belgrade, as well as on the procedure for extending cooperation. NIA presented an initiative for a “data alliance” with Serbia aimed at developing AI and smart cities; it was agreed that during the upcoming Serbian delegation’s visit in September, steps will be specified for extending DGCC and furthering digital cooperation.
