Korean National Civil Defense Drill on August 20, 2025
As part of the scheduled drill, traffic will be temporarily restricted in several areas of Seoul, as well as on at least one road in other cities and counties across the country. According to official information, at 14:00 citizens will be instructed to evacuate to the nearest shelter and listen to the radio for 15 minutes. At 14:15, a preliminary alert will be issued, after which roads will reopen, but additional caution is advised. At 14:20, the alert will be lifted, and citizens may return to their usual activities.
The locations of approximately 17,000 civil defense shelters can be checked using popular map applications (Naver, Daum, Kakao, T-map), as well as the official Emergency Ready app. SMS notifications will be sent out the day before and on the day of the drill, and three-stage alerts will be broadcast during the exercise.
The Embassy urges all citizens to follow the instructions of the relevant authorities and contribute to the successful implementation of this exercise, which aims to enhance public safety and preparedness in emergency situations.
